Celebrating World Children’s Day at Palugolla Vidyalaya, Nikaweratiya
In celebration of World Children’s Day, the Chestnut Foundation recently organised a special programme for the children of Palugolla Vidyalaya in Nikaweratiya, in the Kurunegala District. For many children in rural school communities, occasions like this are a rare chance to come together, be celebrated and simply enjoy being children.
The day was dedicated entirely to the students. It gave them the opportunity to celebrate who they are, share joyful moments with their friends and teachers, and feel the care and encouragement of the wider community.
The full financial support for this meaningful programme was provided by the Chestnut Foundation, ensuring that every child at Palugolla Vidyalaya could take part in the celebration.
World Children’s Day is a reminder that the wellbeing, happiness and education of children matter to all of us. Celebrations like this help children feel recognised and valued, build their confidence, and create positive memories connected to school, which can nurture a lasting enthusiasm for learning.
Through the Chestnut Foundation, we remain committed to supporting communities and improving access to education at a grassroots level. While our core work focuses on creating global academic pathways, we recognise the importance of also contributing locally, where the need is immediate and the impact is tangible.
We extend our sincere thanks to the principal, teachers, parents and students of Palugolla Vidyalaya for welcoming us and making the day such a memorable one.
Stay tuned for more updates on how we are making a difference in communities through education.
