Course Description

BSc (Hons) Integrative Health and Social Care (Top-Up) is designed for professionals seeking to advance their careers while making a meaningful impact in the sector. It is particularly suited to family support workers, probation officers, care home managers, social workers, youth workers, and health scientists who want to strengthen their expertise and lead positive change in practice.

Course Content

You will need to complete six 20 credit modules including 3 core modules and 3 optional modules.

Core modules

This module introduces integrative health and social care practices, attracting diverse professionals worldwide. It highlights how integration across diagnosis, therapy, treatment, and care can improve access, quality, satisfaction, and efficiency, setting a strong foundation for future practice.
This module highlights the importance of evidence and research in health and social care practice. It enables learners to critically evaluate how evidence informs care decisions, fostering innovation and service improvement. Students gain skills in appraisal, research frameworks, and applying evidence to chosen practice areas. Together with the Research and Evidence-Based Practice module, it builds a strong foundation for advancing care quality and professional development.
This module builds on prior learning by guiding you through the evidence-based practice cycle and research process. You’ll learn to write a research proposal, synthesising theory, evidence, and practice on a topic relevant to your area.

Optional modules

This module strengthens skills in holistic end‑of‑life care, focusing on symptom management, patient support, and family guidance. It prepares practitioners to deliver compassionate, timely, and appropriate care.
This module equips practitioner‑educators with the skills to facilitate effective learning and assess performance in health and social care settings. It emphasizes building confidence in guiding diverse learners. A strong focus is placed on fostering an interprofessional learning culture, underpinned by evidence‑based practice and reflective teaching. Practitioners develop the ability to support holistic growth in workplace education.
Focuses on interpreting company reports, forecasting, and evaluating internal/external factors affecting performance. Includes share price drivers, industry comparisons, vulnerability to events, and prediction of business success.
This module introduces leadership and management theories, guiding reflection on personal style and strategies while highlighting their role in improving service quality and driving positive change.
This module explores ethical, legal, and cultural dilemmas in dementia care. It emphasizes person‑centred approaches, leadership, and cognitive or behavioural interventions to enhance quality and support.
This module explores global public health improvements and persisting inequalities. You’ll critically examine determinants of health, screening, surveillance, governance, and initiatives through an international lens.
This module helps health and social care practitioners integrate CBT approaches into their work. You’ll learn safe use of CBT skills, therapeutic relationships, interviewing, and assessment, applying them to practice.
This module develops advanced skills for dementia care, focusing on autonomy, personhood, and evidence-based practice. It suits nurses, social workers, therapists, and community staff supporting independence
This module explores how practitioners can integrate knowledge of emotional and psychological distress into care. You’ll study cultural, social, and political perspectives on diagnosis and treatment, while critically reflecting on your role and workplace to support people experiencing distress in a constructive, facilitating way.
This module develops essential skills for working with vulnerable people in health and social care. You’ll study safeguarding, abuse, risk, disability, inequality, poverty, mental health, and substance misuse.

Study Method

You’ll study one 20‑credit module over a 10‑week trimester with about 20 hours weekly. If you choose the accelerated plan with two modules, expect 40 hours per week alongside other commitments.

Assessment is 100% coursework, including essays, reports, presentations, proposals, and group projects. Support is provided by a Personal Tutor and Online Learner Advisor to help you succeed.

  • Qualifi Level 5 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent qualification.

  • If you have relevant work experience but no traditional qualifications, or if you have other professional qualifications (e.g. ILM, CMI), we still encourage you to apply as all applications are considered on an individual basis.
