The Master of Laws (LLM) (Top-Up) is designed for graduates who wish to complete their postgraduate qualification by undertaking only the dissertation component. This final stage offers the opportunity to deepen your academic legal knowledge through an independent research project, allowing you to explore a topic aligned with your personal interests or career ambitions. As a flexible and focused pathway, the Top-Up enables you to complete your LLM while concentrating entirely on producing a substantial piece of scholarly work.

- Professionals or graduates seeking to specialise in a specific area of law by conducting in-depth independent research aligned with their career goals or academic interests.
Course Content
You’ll propose, design and execute an empirical or literature-based research project in a defined area of law, applying appropriate methods and analysis, and presenting your findings to academic standards. ULaw provides recap sessions on research methods, literature reviews, referencing and report writing to refresh key skills before you move into independent work.
Study Method
Assessment mix:
- The dissertation module will be assessed by submission of a thesis (15,000 words), and provides an opportunity for sustained, in-depth and intensive investigation into, and reflection upon, your chosen specialist area.

- Qualifi Level 7 Diploma in International Business Law (including the International Commercial Arbitration unit).
- Applicants without a Level 7 Diploma but holding significant managerial experience will be provided an alternative accelerated pathway on a case-by-case basis.
- Applicants who wish to complete a Postgraduate Diploma to gain entry to the LLM Top-Up can do so here:Â Qualifi Level 7 Diploma in International Business Law (including the International Commercial Arbitration unit)
