Spreading Joy and Support: New Year Dry Ration Distribution for Low-Income Families

As Sri Lanka prepared to welcome the Sinhala and Tamil New Year — a time of renewal, reflection, and community — the Chestnut Foundation stepped forward with a heartfelt initiative aimed at supporting families in need.

In celebration of this cultural and spiritual season, dry rations were distributed to families engaged in low-income labour. This effort was part of the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to uplift communities by addressing basic needs and fostering dignity during festive times.

The Sinhala and Tamil New Year is traditionally a time of togetherness and abundance, but for many families struggling with daily financial hardships, it can also be a time of quiet worry. Understanding this, the Chestnut Foundation made it a priority to bring comfort and relief to households who might otherwise go without.

With the help of local organisers and community leaders, the ration packs — consisting of essential food items — were distributed directly to the families. This simple yet meaningful gesture served not only to provide nourishment, but also to remind these families that they are seen, supported, and valued.
