Course Description

Law is a fast-changing and increasingly complex area impacting on most aspects of professional, commercial and regulatory work. You also don’t need a legal background to study our (LLM) Master of Laws Top-Up.

You’ll critically evaluate areas of law and the way they operate in the domestic, European and International context and your dissertation will develop your critical analytical and research skills. University of Central Lancashire’s extensive e-law library facility gives access to many legal and academic sources from within and outside the jurisdiction.

You’ll have the opportunity to enhance your employability skills by gaining additional qualifications in the areas of alternative dispute resolution (specifically, international arbitration and mediation). Past graduates have gained or developed careers in legal private practice, public body legal services, and in corporate and commercial fields.

Course Content

The dissertation module provides you with advanced skills required to undertake an extended programme of research. You will cover practical skills (such as project planning and management) and theoretical skills (such as applying conceptual models). You will be informed of a range of different research methodologies and you will be able to assess the appropriateness of particular methodologies for your proposed dissertation topic. You will put into practical effect the research skills acquired during the course and to work in a self-defined field with the objective of producing a substantial piece of work based on critical evaluation and independent thought. You will have the opportunity to carry out extended research on a subject of interest to you, and show your ability to work independently and at a high quality level, on a substantial project.
