Course Content

Module Overview:

The Law Dissertation module is a compulsory module of the Master of Laws program at the University of Central Lancashire. This module provides an opportunity for you to conduct an in-depth research project and demonstrate your understanding and mastery of the subject area.

You will be required to select a topic related to law and conduct extensive research on it. The module is designed to enable you to develop advanced skills in legal research, critical analysis, and independent thinking. You will be guided through the research process and will have the opportunity to work closely with your academic supervisor who will provide support, feedback, and guidance throughout the process.


Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this module, you will have:

  1. Demonstrated an advanced understanding of your chosen area of law.
  2. Developed advanced legal research skills, including identifying and evaluating sources, critically analyzing information, and synthesizing ideas.
  3. Produced a comprehensive and coherent dissertation that contributes to the academic debate in the field of law.

Assessment:

The Law Dissertation module is assessed entirely on the basis of the dissertation. The dissertation should be 15,000 words in length and should demonstrate your ability to undertake independent research and to critically analyze and evaluate the relevant legal issues.

The dissertation will be assessed by two independent markers who will consider the quality and originality of the research, the coherence and clarity of the argument, the accuracy and consistency of the referencing, and the overall presentation of the dissertation.

  • Qualifi Level 7 Diploma in International Business Law.
  • Applicants without a Level 7 Diploma but holding significant managerial experience will be provided an alternative accelerated pathway on a case-by-case basis.
