LLB (Hons) Law in Practice (Final Year)
The LLB in Practice offers a range of legal knowledge and essential skills and is designed to enhance the knowledge already acquired at the diploma level. The final year LLB programme consists of the following modules: Criminal and Civil Procedure in Practice; Professional Ethics and Conduct; Advocacy and Mooting and Legal Research Project.

The LLB (Hons) Top-Up places a strong emphasis on developing practical skills essential for success in the legal profession. Through hands-on experiences and additional training in mooting, mediation, negotiation, and arbitration, students hone the skills necessary for effective legal practice.

Aims
Criminal and Civil Procedure in Practice is fundamental to the practice of the Law. This module will develop the key skills required during process of proving an offence, such as how to use evidential procedures, how to advise a client, initial guidance at a police station (after arrest), and appeals in criminal justice system. In addition, with regards to the civil justice system, this module will teach the process of the court system as well as how to deal and submit evidence and so on.
This module goes beyond an understanding of what the Law ‘is’ towards ‘how is the Law to be proved’. The course is aimed primarily at those students who intend to qualify as legal practitioners and therefore adopts a stance that is both practical and skills-based. This reflected in the syllabus, the course content, the teaching and the method of assessment. It is also an interesting academic course in its own right, dealing with the basics of legal method, Law and language and legal reasoning and legal logic. The subject also raises issues of the protection of human rights, in particular the right to a fair trial, and these issues are integrated into the entire course in a holistic manner.

On successful completion of this module a student will be able to:
Effectively use the skills of academic legal writing, legal argumentation and legal research appropriate to Level 6 including accurate legal terminology.
Explain and illustrate procedural rules and principles of key areas in the context of criminal and civil justice systems.
Apply rules of evidence to a range of scenarios reaching plausible and reasoned conclusions in criminal and civil justice systems.
Critically examine the public policy issues concerning the law of evidence including criminal and civil procedure, especially those pertinent to the right to a fair trial.
Aims
This course is a skills-based course designed to (a) to further develop and enhance the legal skills you have already been introduced to during your studies so far, and (b) to introduce a range of new skills that will prove to be useful in your final year as well as later on in your professional career. These skills are used by all legal professionals (barristers, solicitors, legal executives, para-legals – legal advisers of all kinds).

Appreciate the theoretical and jurisprudential basis of law and in particular the relationship between law and morality.
Appreciate the ethical values required of a professional person, and of the legal profession in particular.
Understand what legal reasoning is, and how to use it effectively in your law courses.
Know what are meant by advocacy, professional conduct and ethics in a variety of contexts and begin to practise it.

Have a good knowledge of the principal features of advocacy in England and Wales.
Have continued to develop presentation as well as oral arguments skills.
Have continued to develop problem-solving skills by applying legal knowledge to factual scenarios and to have increased their understanding of how they may achieve their full potential with regard to degree classification.
Have continued to develop research skills for word-limited assignments using a variety of sources both paper and electronic.
Have produced written assignments under both timed and word-limited conditions.
Have reflected on and learned from the summative assignments in through class and individual feedback.
Aims
The aim of this course is to provide students with an opportunity to carry out a critical, in-depth study in an area of particular interest, introduce students to research methodologies, encourage initiative and the investigative reading of background and source materials, enable students to formulate complex information and develop the skills associated with an appropriate critical analysis and require students to manage their work effectively.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module a student will be able to:
Identify an original research topic in co-operation with a designated academic supervisor.
To write an extended piece of academic writing on a legal topic.
Develop the skills necessary to engaged in a critical analysis of legal topic.
Demonstrate initiative in the definition, design and execution of the dissertation.
Engage in either empirical or literature-based research to demonstrate that they have met the aims of their dissertation and accomplished the learning outcomes.
Demonstrate the ability to research, plan and execute a body of work within a given time span.
